The Breakout Session

 Gwyneth Tint (BS Psychology III)

After the school's General Assembly on January 10th, the Psychology family had a breakout session in which the department's achievements were showcased and the Dean's Listers were awarded.

It started off with a talk about the successful Psychology alumni who serve as the pride of the course. This was later on followed by the introduction of new Psychology Society officers, and the giving of certificates of fifteen outstanding students with Jodi Sta. Maria having the highest GPA met last semester. Of course, the annual initiation activity for the new students was well presented, succeeded by entertaining games everybody enjoyed.

Being both an informative and fun event, this breakout session has truly been a memorable way to start the year right this 2018.

Psychology Days 2018

Monique Villamor (BS Psychology III)

This year’s theme was Filipino Psychology Beyond Limits and it was filled with games and excitement worthy of a three day celebration. Starting with a countdown to excite everyone, the first day opened on March 12th. There was amazing food, games, and a film showing of The Greatest Showman. There was also an announcement of the top Psych Students. The second day kicked off with a talk from BS Psychology’s lovely Jodi Sta. Maria on her experience as a Psychology Major, and then the outreach for the children from CAA. The kids also received a gift of school supplies and had their favorite food from Jollibee! The third and final day was a huge hurrah and formal event for the Pinning Ceremony of the graduating students! Just following on the third day was the enthralling Psych Talent show and competition. Ginoo at Binibining Sikolohiya, the highlight of the Psychology Days, drew the night to an end with first year student Japheth Vijar winning the first ever Ginoong Sikolohiya title and fourth year student Karisse Buenacosa as the heir to the Binibining Sikolohiya crown.
Everybody agreed that the event was utterly unforgettable, for it not only filled the hearts of people with joy, but also with pride and hope for another successful celebration of the Psychology Days for the years to come.

Valentine's Day Celebration

Stacey Ramos (BS Psychology III)

On February 12th to 15th, Psychology Society made a three-day celebration for Valentine's. For the annual booth set-up at the college walkway, the officers united in selling books, plastic balloons, games of waterpong, tickets for Pa-Love-as, Harana, and Psychology-inspired tees.

"Blind Date With a Book" had been sold-out, where donated, wrapped books with only descriptions to be identified were sold for 25 pesos. The singers of Psychology Society spent their Valentine serenading individuals from students, professors, to non-teaching employees. "Harana" spent its second year touching hearts through the voice of our singers.

To draw this year's Valentine's celebration to a close, "Pa-Love-as" was an event yet again on its second year that was held at the mini theater where Psychology related romantic films were screened for the day.

Gwyneth Tint (BS Psychology III)

Psychology's 3rd year students attended the Asian Association of School HRMD Practitioners, Inc. on March 2nd, 2018.

A talk about leadership took place, as well as competitions among the different schools that attended. Kristine Burgos competed in the solo singing competition, while Monique Villamor and Jacqueline Solivio represented the school in the poster making contest.

Throughout the course of the event, the students learned about the importance of leadership and its role in the society, its execution, and strategies to deal with potential problems attached to it.

This out-of-school trip had been as meaningful as it is helpful for future HR practitioners and even to those who will pursue other fields with a heart of a strong-willed leader.

Merienda + Mentoring

Gwyneth Tint (BS Psychology III)

Psychology Society held its first ever Merientoring (Merienda + Mentoring) activity on January 17th, 2018. Its goal is for the students to meet their respective mentors to successfully monitor their mental well-being. The reason for its name is because it took place in the afternoon during merienda time with bread and drinks given to the mentors and mentees during the event.

With the Psychology students' advocacy, this activity had been a stepping stone ahead to fully making the importance of an individual's mental health evident not only to the department, but to the society as well.

HR and Psychology Recruitment Seminar

Gwyneth Tint (BS Psychology III)

Two departments joined together on the 13th of October in hopes of learning the proper execution of recruitment and selection, as both will be crucial in the future for the industrial setting. Honorable guest speakers Mr. Mark Soriano and Ms. Ana Frances Medina from JG Summit Holdings Inc. made a fantastic job imparting their knowledge to the students.

During the workshop, selected students were tasked to participate in an interactive activity in front, acting as an interviewer or an interviewee to help them visualize and experience the roles they have to play someday. At the end of the whole day workshop, everybody agreed that it had been a very beneficial learning event, and it is something to look forward to being organized for the years to come.

Psychology Students Visit

MMA's Art Exhibit

Gwyneth Tint (BS Psychology III)

The 4th year students of Multimedia Arts held an exhibit called UNSEEN to raise mental illness awareness. Different pieces of artworks made by remarkable artists hung in the Luxembourg Hall on the 24th and 25th of January. Psychology students took a tour around the venue to reflect and carefully analyze the images which, as theme, included common psychological problems such as dementia, depression, and anxiety.  The success of this event has been a great step towards further widening the understanding of people about the importance of mental health.

Asian Federation of Student Leaders

Stacey Ann Ramos (BS Psychology III)

On Thursday, October 13th 2017, the Asian Federation of Student Leaders (AFSL) held a Youth Leadership Summit at Southville International School and Colleges. It was a program led for organizational youth representatives to build and strengthen their leadership skills and qualities. The seminar provided constructive leadership knowledge to aid youth leaders when leading their community through screening and activities. A movie showing of “Fallen Not Forgotten” by Sally Jo Belosillo was screened, followed by a talk from TV host and Chairman of National Alliance of Youth Leaders, Ms. Jules Guiang. She spoke about the topic, “Leading Successfully through the Storm: Lessons in Crisis Leadership."

For application of said valuable leadership knowledge, the AFSL organizers prepared a Collaborative Activity: Crisis Leadership Challenge. The organizations and schools were grouped randomly to solve a given crisis. The student leaders must work amongst their team members to formulate the best solution possible for the crisis.

The College of Psychology representatives stood out for their exceptional performance. They utilized their leadership skills by working alongside with other organization representatives, and by conceptualizing outstanding solutions to their given crisis.

The Asian Rendezvous- 2017 Art Appreciation Festival
 Monique Villamor (BS Psychology III)

This year, 2017’s Art Appreciation event was termed the Asian Rendezvous, themed to represent the countries Korea, China, Japan, and India to celebrate diversity. Masters of Ceremony Mr. Karl Bascara and Ms. Aika Guce introduced each of the booths at the start of the event. For the talent competition, each class performed something relative to its country. Korea danced Arirang, China did the Fan Dance, Japan sang Love Live, and India performed Jai Ho, which also led the performers to be awarded as the winner.

Each booth held its own theme apart from its country. Korea featured the Korean winters, while Japan displayed the cherry blossoms of the spring. China showcased their native fans, and India held its Holi Festival of Colors.

The college of Psychology had its own share of students happily contributing to the Asian Rendezvous. Some of the students aided in the creation of the Holi Festival of Colors, while the majority contributed to the Korean booth. Some of the Psychology students held leadership positions in their group, such as Angelene Rojo as the committee head. As always, the department continues to leave its mark in SISC activities.

Annual CAA Gift Giving

Psychology Society, along with HRM student officers, celebrated the spirit of Christmas by holding its annual gift giving activity on the 14th of December. Children of CAA Day Care Center received presents and ended the day with a heartfelt smile.

PAPJA 2018

Gwyneth Tint (BS Psychology III)

The Psychological Association of the Philippines Junior Affiliates organized its 31st annual convention. It was held at the SMX Convention Center and DLSU Campus. The graduating Psychology students of SISC willingly attended the two-day event to learn more about the roles of psychology majors in the society. A seminar was conducted the first few hours of day 1, which was followed by inter-school competitions. Day 2 consisted of interesting workshops that aimed to enhance student's skills on their chosen psychology-related topics of interest.

Stunning ladies and gentlemen attended the IC 5 Culminating Activity on the 18th of October, as they wore their striking formal attires fit for the event. The main objective of the activity was to make sure that the students learn proper etiquette from the way they dress to the way they behave.

Ms. Justteen Marasigan, the speaker, did an awesome job discussing what professionalism and power dressing are about. By the end of her talk, it was time for dinner!

During the fine dining, performers from different departments showcased their respective talents for entertainment. Three of psych’s own representatives, Kristine Burgos, Chelsea Coventry, and Gwyneth Tint, sang their rendition of an Adele medley to serenade the attendees. Throughout the event, judges kept a keen eye scanning for the rightful winners of The Best Dressed Award. In the end, Psychology student Gwyneth Tint won, along with nursing student Kevin Cruz and was rewarded with 500-peso worth of Starbucks gift certificates individually.

It was indeed a beautiful night! Not only was it filled with delightful dinner, but also with knowledge and inspirational teachings that would help students in the future.

Mr. and Ms. SISC

       Gwyneth Tint (BS Psychology III)

Once again, gorgeous ladies and gentlemen shook SISC’s grounds as they conquered the stage with grace and wit during the Mr. and Ms. SISC Pageant. Different courses gave out their best pick for this event in preparation for the SGEN, and the psychology department was represented by none other than Chelsea Coventry and Karl Cantillas in hopes of glory.

At the start of the competition until the end, Psychology department’s representatives made their presence felt by flaunting their greatest assets from beach to evening wear to striking their most alluring poses in wait for the top finalists. Five men and five women who stood out among the rest were chosen by the judges separately for the question and answer portion. The crowd fell silent as the participants answered the best they could in confidence, facing their fears and anxieties.

Drum rolls and audience’s roars were heard as Ms. Chelsea Coventry was later on announced as 4th Runner Up.

Filikula

 Gwyneth Tint (Bs Psychology III)

Psychology Society proudly held the Filikula on the 29th of August inside the Mini Theater at 12:30 pm to approximately 5:30 pm. It is a film showing organized for the department to exhibit its support in the celebration of the Buwan ng Wika, and to raise funds for the organization. Fortunately, tickets have been sold out a day before the event itself, and the room was already packed a few minutes after the first film began rolling. Students coming in were tasked to register first at the front desk before proceeding to enter.

Ms. Julian Pupos, Psych society’s Vice President External, started off by making the spectators understand the rules inside the theatre, specifically about keeping it rubbish-free. Her speech was followed by the SISC invocation that was led by Vice President Internal, Mr. Dylan Vallestero. All lights were off at the exact time allotted to make sure there would not be any problem with the schedule.

The first movie, Baka Bukas, engaged the audience with the characters’ personalities the same way they are hooked with its eye-opening story. Loud roars of laughter echoed inside the room during the showing of the second movie, My Ex and Why’s. The third, entitled Ang Kwento Nating Dalawa, however, caught the students’ attention because of its realistic representation of everyday life with a little twist of drama.

It has truly been a successful, memorable day for the department. The efforts exerted all paid off and everybody agreed that Filikula was one event worthy to be remade.

On a Monday Afternoon, the 4th of September, students from B.S – Psychology, represented by Julian Pupos, Molly Santiago and Kristine Burgos, became the ambassadresses of their course. The career talk was for the SHS students with an academic track of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The purpose of this talk was to help the SHS of SISC to choose the right course to pursue after high school.

The ambassadresses presented a video of Psychology department's activitiesin the past semester. They also tried to play a game by using the Thematic Apperception Test so that the students will be able to have a hint of what Psychology is. They shared about the misconceptions in Psychology, as well as the achievements of the Psychology Society. The students were also introduced to some occupations available to Psychology majors.

The career talk was a successful event for the Psychology students because they were able to share their passion, which is studying Psychology. Despite the lack of time given, the Psychology students were still able to share their knowledge about what they have learned in Psychology and they have successfully made the senior high school students interested in the field.
